Signs saying "Malfunction voids all plays and pays" are posted on every machine by either the casino or the manufacturer. If the maximum payout is $2500 for the bet you're making and the machine telles you that you won $166 million, you should be able to figure out for yourself that the machine malfunctioned.
In the event of a malfunction, the casion is only obligated to return the amount of the bet to the customer. Kudos to them for making the deal a little sweeter.

The people I see know exactly what they are doing. All of the little old women that my grandmother goes with can tell you with out looking exactly what each of the different combos will pay based on their bet. Its kinda funny.
