This film was absolutely brilliant, not only did it capture Maurice Sendak's book, it captured childhood itself!
The movie itself is a mood swing roller coaster, just like when we're kids, one minute we're laughing plotting shenanigans, the next minute life sucks and you hate everyone cause they're just so mean!
The soundtrack is brilliant goes perfectly with the film. The cinematography is absolutely gorgeous.

I definitely recommend this to everyone, both those who loved the book and those who've never read it. Take your kids!

I am really pissed off about this movie. I'm a huge WTWTA fan, my wife knows this, even my checks are WTWTA. Ever since the previews were leaked many moons ago I've been telling my wife how awesome it is that they're making a movie... And yet she scheduled a girls night out to go see the movie next week with my daughter and a few of her friends, it's a moms and daughters thing.

I'm pissed about it.

Chez, what would this movie be like on shrooms? I'm thinking about taking this route if I can make it happen.

no sir, you won't need hallucinogenics. The movie is gorgeous as it is. You might get too emotional. Smoke a fatty though, makes the music nicer.

Oh yeah, the music. That's another thing that's pissing me off about this; the soundtrack was done by the chick from the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and I LOVE the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. f**king wife...

Sorry, I'll stop s**tting on your thread now. I'm just emotional about the whole thing.

Here's a little secret that not many people know.

You can go to the cinema on your own.

The number of people who don't know this is quite incredible, but they do sell single tickets quite happily.

And I know it's about wanting to see your daughter's reaction to it, but you also want to see it yourself - only thing stopping you is you.

Chez, does it have enough to keep a 3-year-old interested? I thought it wouldn't, and am trying to go to see it without him. But if he might sit through it, I would gladly take him along.

Ouch.. just for that I would go and watch the next best chick flick without her. That would teach her a lesson.

While this is true, it isn't nearly as enjoyable. I enjoy watching movies at home, but the theater is a group experience.

Why?

There's no reason and no substance to that. It's different, sure, but it's not less enjoyable.

Watching movies at home does not compare to a cinema, no matter how big your TV or how good your surround sound.

Just saw this movie, it was terrible. A horrific, frightening, and sometimes annoying rumpus on a psychological roller coaster. Sure, it had its funny and happy moments, but the movie ultimately ends on a depressing note. The movie echoes broken homes and strained friendships in such a manner that I would expect many to leave the theatre thoroughly saddened.

I actually hate going to the theater on my own. This in fact, applies to most any outing, except for going to the store. I can most certainly go to a restaurant on my own, or go bowling on my own, or go to the movies on my own, or do many sorts of things on my own, but it's much more enjoyable with friends. It's not about seeing their reaction or talking, since we're watching the movie, and it's not watching it with another person. It's about being in the presence of friends, and talking and hanging out before and after the show, plus the experience of seeing it in theater presentation. You may not have that and you may enjoy going to the theater alone, and that's fine. But for some of us, it's just a duller experience. :P

Woah, that's quite a leap. Where did you get that I don't lle going with people?

I see a spot of projection (if you'll forgive the pun).

Sidran, you should learn to be comfortable with your own company.

I'm quite comfortable with my own company. I've also got a touch of extroversion so I find greater joy when I'm with people than when I am alone. Where did I say you don't like going with other people? I simply said "you may enjoy going to the theater alone". Seems to be a true statement based on what you've said previously.

I was simply sticking up for my side of the fence, here. :P I don't intend to be brash.

Look, what I was doing here was telling DEP that there's a solution to his problem, a solution that most people tend to overlook and some people think is an anathema (hey, thanks for bearing me out on that one). I really didn't expect to be pounced on like this.

Seriously, what is the problem here?

If you don't want to take my word you don't have to go on your own.

In all seriousness I didn't mean to imply that you didn't have friends or anything like that. But similarly, I did feel like I was being pounced on for not liking to go to the movie theater alone.

Good news, everybody.

Sidran and I have decided that what we'll do in this one instance is go to the same multiplex but if I wanna watch a different film I'll go and do that then we'll meet up in the bar for drinks after.

Yay!

You could drive to the usual make-out spot spot afterwards, but each of you would stay in his own car. What a gas!
