I watched the first sequel of the movie and I want to see the second one although I heard from my friends who read the books that the story is very dissapointing because it is fictional and not have the same story in the movie. But I still love to watch this. I love Edward :)
Really really not a fan of the Twilight series, the way they completely glamorize vampirism (I know it already was, but these guys *aren't* vampires), and then the following among tweens that has surrounded it (no offense to any here).

So ya, count me out.
To be fair, I would have hated the Beatles back in the day just because of the tweens that loved them. You cannot always just things based on them.. Hell, the tween sensation kept me from reading Harry Potter until the 7th book came out.
Stupid tweens ruining things for the rest of us -_-
*sigh* I love the books and I am super excited for the movie. I am a little tired of people saying "ohh, they don't have fangs, they aren't vampires, they glitter in the sun, they're not vampires". Is there like a fricken written law somewhere that says they need fangs and need to die in sunlight??? If they died in sunlight in this story, the story wouldn't exist because it makes sense in the second book.
Yes, I realize it is loved by tweens, but it is a good story. To hate something just because everyone else likes it, is a retarded reason. Anyone I have met that hates it has not read the books and the books are a million times better than the movie.
The books aren't bad. They aren't the 'best' thing ever, but they're well written, the story is coherent, and I can definitely see the appeal of the plot to lots of girls.
It amuses me that so many people react with such vitriol--it's either love or hate, for some reason.
If you want to "read" the book to laugh at how poorly written and ridiculous it is but don't actually want to read it, then this blog is excellent. Someone who is a writer reads and analyses each chapter in depth for you. It is also rather humourous.

Oh, my eyes were rolling at the previews even before the mania hit. So it's not the sole reason. It's just icing on the cake for me. :P
*sparkle*
And to be fair, the previews for Vampire's Assistant draws sooo much more ire from me. That movie looks worse, in my opinion. Much, much worse.
Anne Rice started the "glamorization" of Vampires in her Vampire Chronicles. Of course it didn't help that Tom Cruise played Lestat in the movie. (This was before Cruise went totally psycho).
A good friend of mine who enjoys reading a lot of the same books I do absolutely loved this series and demanded that I read it.
I read all four books and have to say they were not poorly written, but they were nothing more than teenage romance novels - written for 16 year old girls.
You could have made the main characters Nazi and Jew, Black and White, Martian and Human, Pirate and Ninja, or any other "conflicting" pairings and the books would not have changed that much.
It stole it themes from so many other stories - Romeo and Juliet, Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, Anne of Green Gables, and so many more. (Not that I'm complaining - that is a VERY common occurrence in pop literature)
It was the rehashing of all those tales that just happened to include vampires and werewolves.
Exactly. For their target market--which is NOT adults--they're fine.
Tamer than what I preferred to read at that age, in truth.
And sidran--The Vampire's Assistant is a bad movie. No clue how closely it follows the book, but it was pretty bad. More homo-erotic than anything I've seen in a long time, cheesy beyond cheesy...Bad, bad. Steals concepts and then butchers them.
We saw it at the drive-in, Zombieland followed and was so awesome.

Zombieland makes up for any bad movie experience, in my opinion. :)
Definitely! I've told many people they NEED to see it. Apparently, somewhere, there's a review that compares it to Shaun of the Dead...and I guess some people don't see that as a positive thing.
