But how exactly did pagers work? I was only eleven when 9/11 happened, never needed a pager, was a couple years from having my own cell phone, so really, no need to know how they worked.

You just called the pager, number showed up...? Or something...

And how is this, the pager leaks, relevant to anything? I don't see it being particularly useful.

Regular pager, yes,

these are from text pagers where it'd show a small message too.. kinda like a tweet or an SMS

I agree. I love seeing how technology comes full circle. First it was numerical pagers, the short messages via Pagers or phone SMS. These became obsolete once you were able to send longer messages (e.g. BlackBerry), which are being supplanted by SMS and tweets. Now I have a BB I find my self ignoring the messages and just note that person X called.
